Since 1964, Warmteservice has grown from a small warehouse into a network of 86 locations, focusing on expert advice and sustainable solutions in the installation sector. Driven by customer satisfaction and innovation, the family business has been collaborating with de Jong & Laan for over 25 years. Our support in financial and strategic processes assists Warmteservice in their continuous growth and development. Read how mutual trust and shared expertise lead to sustainable results.

Together for warmth & development

Warmth is close by. With 86 locations spread across the Netherlands, Warmteservice has grown into a substantial organization, yet with strong local involvement. The family business, founded in 1964 by Theo de Bruin's father, has the mission to be the total supplier for the installation industry, offering expert advice and excellent service.

‘It can be different’

Theo’s father’s drive to do things differently started because, as an installer of gas fireplaces, he often had to wait a long time at wholesalers for his materials, unintentionally leaving his customers quite literally in the cold. “It can be different,” he thought, and started his own warehouse.

The demand for his services turned out to be significant, and many colleagues quickly found their way to him. It worked so well that he devoted himself entirely to it and stopped working as an installer. However, he took the experiences from the field with him to become a supplier who sees himself as an inspirer, advisor, and someone who can take the hassle away.

Together you achieve more

It caught on and the company grew. The organizational goal to inspire, advise, and unburden has always remained a guiding principle & not only for the customers. This goal is also pursued in their relationships with employees and partners. Together, they build a future where everyone plays an important role in finding solutions for challenges to achieve optimal results.

This aligns with the vision of de Jong & Laan and our perspective on collaboration. For us, building the future together is also central. By combining knowledge and expertise to inspire and motivate each other. Progressive, but always critical and down-to-earth. And that resonates with the core values of Warmteservice.

Long-term relationships change

Warmteservice and de Jong & Laan share many similarities in their working methods and values. They form the foundation of a sustainable relationship, as one might describe a collaboration spanning over 25 years.

Under the leadership of Theo de Bruin and other board members Frank Hoedemaker and Berry de Bruin, the organization quickly grew into an SME+ company. The company grew so big that there was a need for a suitable office. Due to previous positive experiences with our office, the administrative and compilation tasks were entrusted to the then Horlings. “At that time, we were already further advanced in automation (then through Navision), but compared to now, a lot has changed since then”, notes Kees Visser (Partner at de Jong & Laan).

And that aligns with the development of Warmteservice. The organization started with a warehouse in the basement of the founders' mother-in-law and has now grown into:

  • 86 locations and supporting divisions spread throughout the Netherlands. Of these, 57 are (partially) company-operated and 29 are franchises.
  • Around 500 employees, who refer to themselves as warmth surfers, are currently employed.
  • The product range for heating has been expanded to include sanitary, installation materials, heat pumps, electrical, solar panels, charging stations, air conditioning, ventilation, and roofing.

During such a long relationship and with significant organizational developments, the collaboration naturally changes. Where today's de Jong & Laan once supported with administration that used to be delivered in boxes monthly, now this process is automated, and Warmteservice receives the digital annual report.

“Warmteservice is an organization that has been very much in motion and is far from done evolving,” says current director Stef van der Hoorn. “Our long-term vision is not only focused on providing warmth but also on offering service and organizational growth. In that respect, we grow along with the developments that de Jong & Laan also experiences. We understand each other, and the expansion of their service package through the partnership with de Jong & Laan is a perfect fit. The questions you have as a client change and/or increase as an organization like ours develops.

Trust and mutual understanding as a foundation

Kees adds that the foundation of this sustainable relationship is indeed mutual understanding and thus trust: “Our line of work is largely numbers-based, but an entrepreneur primarily operates from the heart, from a passion.

Our fundamental tasks still include compiling annual accounts, managing payroll, and handling tax returns. But due to the structure with partially company-owned and partially franchise operations, we more frequently receive questions about succession. We then act as family advisors, assisting in succession processes or reorganizations within the organization.”

This makes working for this client very dynamic and sometimes requires quick adaptation. A challenge we are eager to take on together. We maintain a strict division between our audit activities and our two compilation teams (for the company-owned operations and specifically for the franchises) working for this client.

Many individuals from both organizations are involved. The teams know how to find each other well. The same applies to the right contacts at the client. Here too, trust in each other's skills and dedication is the starting point for optimal collaboration. As a result, location manager Olaf Boon is mainly focused on connecting where necessary. “When working for this client, trust and speed are essential. Since we have the space to provide both requested and unsolicited advice and the willingness to invest in it, we are collectively building a professional organization. And seeing this development continually provides energy.”

Olaf Boon

Branch Manager

"Trust and speed are essential with this client. Thanks to the room for advice and the willingness to invest, we are building a professional organization together. This development is energizing."

People make the difference

Major shareholder/director Theo de Bruin: “Just like at de Jong & Laan, people determine the success here too. Only a satisfied customer will return. It seems like a fairly simple goal, but given the size and responsibility of this organization, it requires structure and insight.

Although the organization implements very few ad hoc or unexpected changes due to a clear long-term strategy, there is still a need for structure and insight to continually adjust. Similar to Olaf, my challenge is also to ensure connection. Automating that entire process of structure and insight is an ambition we want to tackle. In this, Soll IT/IT Advisory from de Jong & Laan will support us. Besides a team of dedicated accountants and tax consultants, we also regularly see advisors in the fields of HR, corporate finance, IT Advisory, and family advice here.

This applies not only to the developments that franchisees are experiencing, but also to ourselves. The third generation of the De Bruin family is now working in the organization, and the management team has been expanded and strengthened with Stef van der Hoorn as the general manager and Tim Klos as the financial director. The family is still actively involved in the company, which has grown significantly. This combination also demands estate planning. For that reason, we involved the third generation in the structure some time ago. Thanks to the open and engaged approach, de Jong & Laan is fully informed and could advise us well in this area too.”

Thus, as an accounting and advisory organization and entrepreneurial family, we form a great team that works together on continuous development and optimization for a sustainable future.
