On May 9, 2024, Vrieling Adviesgroep celebrated its 75th anniversary. This family business serves private, business, and agricultural customers from various business units: insurance, real estate, mortgages, banking, pensions, and absenteeism prevention. With the third generation at the helm and over 275 employees, Vrieling Adviesgroep operates from Dedemsvaart, Hardenberg, and Zwolle.

The focus is on continuity and security in the field of personal advice, the right insurance, and suitable solutions. With an entrepreneurial spirit and personal attention, the organization helps its customers look forward with confidence and achieve their ambitions, ensuring that their financial situation adapts accordingly.

The challenge

The challenge was in creating a perfect alignment between the information needs of management, other stakeholders, and the available financial information across different companies and domains. Additionally, it was necessary to professionally restructure and display the organization data. This formed the basis of the customer request with which Vrieling Adviesgroep entered into discussions with IT consultancy .

The various business units of the organization were also characterized by differences in financial reporting and data registration. The management needed real-time insight into a current and accurate (financial) organization-wide report.

In short, a complex data model simplified into an accessible online Power BI dashboard. 

What we aim for together

The team at Vrieling Advisory Group worked alongside IT consultant Cato Visser on this Power BI project. The key figures for each business unit were mapped out. "This was quite the task, unlocking the necessary data from the financial system, but it also provided immediate insight into where improvements could be made. As the process progressed, it became evident that properly applying and unlocking a data warehouse formed a better foundation," Cato states. As a result, the assignment changed in scope. Gijsbert: "That flexibility, or call it growing insight, combined with support from both technical knowledge and an understanding of the financial world, made the collaboration pleasant. The IT consultants at IT advice know what it takes to produce good reports."

Insight through overview

By determining the key figures for the total overview together and establishing links between different administrations, we built a clear dashboard. The Power BI dashboard not only provides current insight into the overall organizational figures, such as consolidated revenue, but also insight into the performance of each business unit individually. Based on this setup and insights, Vrieling Advisory Group is now exploring further optimization and professionalization opportunities. "At the moment, for instance, we are considering moving our data landscape to the Cloud to facilitate easier connections and better data access," Gijsbert explains.

Development
