The challenge
Owner - and also founder - Rick van der Kamp contemplated the future of his family business. This led to the need for a family advisory process, or guidance in the process of passing the family business to the children.
During the succession process, there was some doubt about whether entrepreneurship provided the right energy for all family members. This prompted Rick to reflect. After further exploration, he assessed the possibilities with his family and advisors Gert and Tom.
With a multidisciplinary team, all possibilities were critically examined. Joint family conversations and personal interviews were conducted to independently hold up a mirror to the family members. Through personal interviews, it was determined how each person envisioned the future.
This resulted in the goal of sustainable entrepreneurship being maintained, along with the dreams of the entrepreneurial family members, only in a different form.
Vanderkamp Pompen took a different direction; although earlier assistance was sought for ‘properly passing the company to family,’ there is now a demand for guidance in an international (external) sales process. For that reason, specialists from corporate finance came into play.
