A sustainable relationship as
the foundation for progress

Working together towards the future means building a sustainable relationship. A sustainable relationship hinges on trust. For Harry Westerbroek (partner) and Onno-Pieter Sonnega (CEO), this sustainable relationship goes back over 20 years.

A sustainable relationship as a foundation for progress for Plastchem

That 'plastic' can be produced sustainably is proven by Plastchem. In Hardenberg is the largest PVC compounds factory in the Benelux. Annually, they produce over 60 thousand tons of PVC compounds for the industrial sector.

PVC compounds for, among other things, the production of the recurring, popular vinyl records (LPs). But also for pipes, gutters, cables, and foam products. By meeting the latest requirements, a high-quality product is produced sustainably and delivered custom-made in the ultramodern factory. Thus, no 'product-waste'.

Sustainable relationship

Sustainability is important and is reflected in many aspects of business operations. Sustainable management of energy, goods, and production methods. At de Jong & Laan, it is reflected in client relationships. A sustainable relationship is a long, solid partnership where you work together for a progressive, sustainable future. It means thinking together about the right steps.

A sustainable relationship hinges on trust.

The trust that allows you to openly and honestly share information and thoughts. Only then can you arrive at the right advice.

The latter may not always be enjoyable due to a critical view, but it's part of the process. This helps you move forward together. The freedom and security to provide a critical response do not come from a fleeting acquaintance. It requires empathy and involvement.

Originated in the orchard

For Harry Westerbroek (partner) and Onno-Pieter Sonnega (CEO), this involvement dates back a long time. Over 20 years ago, Harry rode a scenic route on his racing bike from the Veluwe to the Betuwe to visit an acquaintance. The acquaintance had parked his caravan at Onno-Pieter's place in the orchard. There, the two men started a conversation.

Driven as both men are, they quickly began discussing Onno-Pieter's factory at the WAVIN industrial estate in Hardenberg and his office in Barneveld. Full of pride, he talked about the philosophy behind his company, its origins, and the steps he still wanted to take. As is fitting for a sustainable relationship, a connection is needed, and it developed there in the orchard.

Working together towards the future

The start of a promising journey where our current brand story ‘moving forward together’ first took shape. Plastchem experienced significant growth, with De Jong & Laan as their accountant and advisory firm standing by. Where we started as their accountant for annual accounts, payroll processing, and tax advice, Plastchem has now grown into a company that requires auditing. Consequently, we now also work with a complete audit team, grant advisors, VAT specialists, IT consultants, international advisors, and our innovation box specialists to plan for the future. Our extensive involvement highlights the company's growth, which has now moved into a brand-new, high-quality factory with a modern office in Hardenberg. De Jong & Laan contributed to this by working with business advisors on the financing of this factory.

The key to success

Such success doesn’t just happen by itself. It’s driven by an owner with determination and vision. Someone who knows how to create a strong team around them and motivates that team by working hard themselves. But also by being open to others' opinions and advice from our various areas of expertise.

The great thing is that we share the same working approach. Plastchem also sees itself more as a partner than a supplier. Together with their clients, they achieve a great end result. And that’s precisely how we approach things too. Due to the longstanding relationship, we have naturally built a bond of trust.

Trust is foundational

Trust is important in collaboration. Trust that you have each other’s best interests at heart. You achieve this by knowing what’s going on with each other.

  • What challenges are there?
  • What obstacles are you encountering?
  • And where do you see opportunities?

We regularly have discussions about this. Usually about business ideas, such as purchasing a neighboring industrial site. Is this a good time or is it wiser to wait?

We walk in with a sense of pride when we visit the site again with our team and park by the impressive silos.

Most of those conversations are very business-focused, but knowing each other well means they sometimes cover personal matters too. Because yes, with such a passionate entrepreneur, there is often overlap. It might not strictly be part of the job, but it certainly contributes to the personal connection and also to the drive and motivation to help each other advance.

We are ready to support each other with a multidisciplinary team. We walk in with a sense of pride when we visit the site again with our team and park by the impressive silos.

Onno-Pieter and his team are of course doing the work. That we can advise in various areas, that’s just great!
