Sale: Engelenburg Castle

The exclusive Engelenburg Castle in Brummen has been acquired by European Hospitality Management Group (EHM Group), marking the start of a new chapter in the castle’s long history. De Jong & Laan supported the former owner of Engelenburg Castle throughout the sale process.

Sale: Engelenburg Castle

After a colourful history, Engelenburg Castle has been a hotel with a range of rooms and suites, a restaurant, several bars and lounges, a wine cellar, terraces, and extensive conference and event facilities since 1988. The 48-hectare estate is also home to a nine-hole golf course.

The new owner, EHM Group, is proud to be entrusted with carrying the legacy of Engelenburg Castle forward and adding a new chapter to its rich heritage.

EHM Group

EHM Group was founded in 2018 by hoteliers Bas Tolmeijer, Willem-Jan van den Dijssel and Francesco Monaco. The company focuses on acquiring large-scale hospitality projects and real estate, as well as developing and expanding unique hospitality concepts. Alongside Engelenburg Castle, its portfolio includes wellness resort Thermae 2000 in Valkenburg, Hotel Haarhuis in Arnhem, as well as Koepelgevangenis (Dome Prison) and Veluwe Hotel De Beyaerd.

With Engelenburg Castle, EHM Group aims for the very highest standards of hospitality and gastronomy. Significant investments are being made in the renovation of the hotel rooms, the modernisation of event facilities, and the refurbishment of the main building’s interior. In addition, the restaurant will set an even higher culinary bar under the guidance of a new head chef.

A successful future for his life’s work

De Lange: I am confident that Bas and his partners will create a successful future for what has been my life’s work.

Mr De Lange had owned the centuries-old château since the 1980s and devoted much of his life to restoring, renewing, and running the estate. He is pleased that EHM Group will continue the legacy of Engelenburg Castle. Remaining involved at a strategic level, he has also taken an equity stake in EHM Group. Mr De Lange: “I spent many hours in discussion with Bas and his partners, and I am convinced that they will create a successful future for what has been my life’s work.”
